An AI window manager for Mac

Say what you're working on. Kumiko works out which windows you need, opens what's missing and arranges your screen.

Updated

How it works

  1. Press ⌥ Space anywhere on your Mac.
  2. Type what you're doing, in your own words.
  3. Kumiko shows the plan: which windows, which layout, what it will open, hide or close, and why.
  4. Press ↵ to arrange, ⇥ to adjust, or ⌘↵ to save it as a workspace you can bring back later.

What you can ask

You typeKumiko does
"Review PR 482 and reply to the team"The pull request goes straight ahead, code and tests on the left, team chat on the right.
"Get ready for the checkout design review"The design file gets the big space, with the spec, the issue and the design channel beside it.
"Standup in 5 minutes"The call goes in the middle, your notes and this cycle's issues either side.
"Close VS Code and open the tukko repo on GitHub"VS Code quits the normal way; Chrome comes forward on the repo tab you already had open.
"Catch up on mail and messages"Three inboxes in three columns, so you can work left to right.

If part of a request isn't possible, Kumiko plans the part it can do and tells you about the rest, instead of refusing.

It knows your browser tabs

A lot of work lives in browser tabs, not windows. If you allow it, Kumiko reads the address of the front tab in each browser window (Safari, Chrome, Arc, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi and Dia), cleaned of sign-in codes and tokens first. With "Include other tab titles" on, it can also bring a background tab to the front, so "open the GitHub repo" switches to the tab you already have instead of opening a new one.

Private by design

Everything Kumiko learns stays on your Mac. An AI request contains only:

  • What you typed
  • App names and window titles
  • Front-tab addresses, cleaned of tokens (optional)
  • Titles of background tabs (optional, off by default)

It never contains:

  • Window contents
  • Screenshots
  • Your learned rules
  • Anything kept after the plan

Still a proper window manager

AI is optional. Without it, Kumiko still snaps windows with ⌃⌥ and the arrows, has six whole-screen layouts, restores your tabs and folders with Resume, and runs Meeting, Share-safe and Focus modes. It's made for ultrawide and big monitors and works on macOS 14 or later.

Kumiko is €30 once for 2 Macs, and the first 25 launch licences are €9. It works on macOS 14 or later.

Questions

What is an AI window manager?

A window manager you can talk to. Instead of dragging windows or remembering shortcuts, you describe the task ("write the release notes for 1.4") and it decides which windows you need and where they go.

Which AI model does Kumiko use?

Your choice: Kumiko AI (Claude, through Kumiko's server, €4 a month), your own Anthropic Claude key, or Apple's free on-device model on macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence. You can also switch AI off.

Does it see my screen?

No. Kumiko never takes screenshots or reads window contents. It sends what you typed, app names and window titles, and optionally the cleaned address of the front browser tab.

Can it close or hide apps?

Yes, when you say so. "Close VS Code" quits it the normal way, so unsaved work still prompts, and "hide Slack" hides it. Undo brings them back.

How fast is it?

With Kumiko AI or your own Claude key, a plan usually comes back in about two seconds. The on-device model takes a few seconds longer and is best for simple requests.
